SCULPTRA is an anti-aging treatment that we offer our patients at Texture Med Spa. SCULPTRA is an injectable like HA Filler, however the mechanism of action is different. The product is actually made of crushed suture material (and few other items) that is mixed with sterile water then injected under the skin. It has been used In Orthopedics and Dentistry for many decades to recreate bone, and reinflate foot fat pads, repair joints and even the sagging skin around one’s knees. 

SKIN 

Comprised of cells, Hyaluronic Acid, Elastin, and Collagen. 

As we grow we are producing a strong matrix of cells and fibers giving us a full, supple, youthful appearance and as we age this matrix breaks, fragments and dehydrates. We aren’t producing the amounts of Collagen/Elastin/HA we once were, and intrinsic factors such as genetics/hormones or extrinsic environmental/lifestyle play a vital role in the speed in which the matrix breaks down. What we SEE is deflation, hollowing, sagging, deep folds, lines, wrinkles. 

HOW IT WORKS

Once injected the particles stimulate the inflammatory cascade and the restoration cycle begins. Fibroblasts and other cells arrive at the scene and start to repair, replenish, and grow new Collagen, repair fragmented Elastin and produce HA the hydration molecule. Deeming SCULPTRA, a Bio-Stimulator Filler, as it stimulates your own body to fix itself and revolumize. The Hydration factor is what gives the reputation for that “SCULPTRA GLOW”. 

PLAN

Initial swelling at injection sites is due to the sterile water injected under your skin. Once your body absorbs the water you will appear back to baseline. Not to worry, changes are happening underneath and visible 4-8 weeks after injection and will continue through the upcoming months.  Most patients will not achieve full correction after the first session. Most people will require 2, maybe even 3 sessions. However,  it all depends on the degree of damage and the level of correction the patient desires.  When setting expectations it's important to be mindful of each individual's goals and outcomes are variable. 

Expect some bruising, it's your face and it's a highway of vessels. Please avoid scheduling any injectable procedure within 2 weeks of an event. 

SCULPTRA does not produce an immediate result like HA FILLER. One must be willing to patiently wait while the grass grows. ;)
